I though we could get this forum started with a discussion about the CIMA OT exams.
Here at Astranti, we've heard from lots of students who've taken the CIMA Operational OT exams and their feedback has varied quite significantly!
Many people say these exams are very difficult, and required a number of attempts to pass and others have said they were easier than the expected.
Have you taken any of the exams? Which ones? What did you do to prepare for them and did it work?!
Looking forward to reading your feedback!

I'm interested in feedback from anyone who has sat P1 under the new syllabus, I am planning on taking the exam in July.
I believe the pass rates are very low but I hope this is due to the limited amount of data available.

I've sat F1 on April 28th and failed. 1.5 minutes are not enough for half of the questions. You've got to be very fast. Just flag the question where you are not sure, and you may come if you have time at the end. I finished even without looking at a few last questions. Time run out...

Time is also my concern, some of the revision questions have taken me several minutes to answer, there is no way they could be answered in 1.5 minutes. I haven't attempted any mocks yet, I purchased some mocks from Astranti which I was told are exam quality.

I took my ot exam(f1) on 27 march 2015 and I failed the financial statements and reporting section while in others I was "proficient".my argument is also time on these exams because even though I flagged questions which needed more time I still didnt hv enough time to finish.
To prepare I purchased astranti mock exam 1-3, I was very frustrated to find that all 3 mocks were not varied? It was just same questions different wording and numbers.also when I tried the mocks more than 1nce I still got the same marks as when I first tried even when I was sure of the answer I gave and the answer keys agreed

Would be very interested in what Study Materials people have used to passed operational exams, can't decide between Kaplan, BPP, Acorn or Astranti

I haven't passed an exam yet but I'm using Kaplan (supposedly Kaplan produce the materials in conjunction with Cima) I also used Kaplan throughout AAT. After reading the feedback on different student forums it appears that the issue is with the exam content not the materials, there have been lots of complaints regarding the question banks (especially, F3, P3 & E3)
Apparently Cima are making some changes to the exams in May.

There has certainly been some issues between the Practice Exam Questions that were written by tuition providers and the Real Peason Vue questions, with some students complaining that many practice questions weren't hard enough.
At Astranti, we are undertaking a large scale project to make our questions even harder and as close to the real exams as possible. If you purchased our Mock Exams, you would get automatic access to any updates, which would save you having to buy the package again!
Please try our mock exams for free when you sign up to the Astranti Membership

What are students thoughts on the P1 OT exam? How did you guys find it?
I will beginning self study of P1 at end of May but from reading through the syllabus it seems a lot more difficult than the old P1 exam. There are so many topics to cover - budgets, variances, risk, linear programming etc.
If anyone has been successfull in passing the P1 IT exam please share your thoughts and advice, espcially for us students who can only afford to do the self study route

my own experience: I skipped any question that didnt have the answer jump right out at me when I read it. I honestly think the questions are not fairly picked from the question bank. My first attempt I had a lot of questions about high low, my 2nd attempt: none. So it's your luck if you have a lot of questions that do not take a lot of time to answer.

I have failed P1 twice, time is a real issue, 1.5 mins per question is not enough.
Some questions have come up that I just did not have a clue how to answer even when given the answers to choose from.
Past papers don't help as the syllabus and format has changed, Problem is I understand the subject, its the questions that I don't.

Silverfox555, I understand completely. I have in two weeks sat E1 and failed both times. I'm registered with Kaplan an have not explored other resource options. I also feel like I can answer any question in my textbook but applying it is a different story. Can anyone offer possible tips on how best to tackle the exam?
Thanks in advance

@braveheart - Have you tried the Pearson Vue practice exam? This should give you a good idea on the questions to be asked. Im currently studying for the beast that is P1.

I have now failed P1 three times, more and more bizarre questions come up that don't seem to be reflected in any of the so called exam test kits I have from Kaplan, and they are of no help what so ever.
Does anyone have any advice?

Hello, If your currently studying P1 make sure to get the 2016 Kaplan practice kit. It has some questions not in the 2015 kit, such as decision tree questions. I now understand how to do them after going through these questions.

Thanks Hi Peter, i havent passed yet but read some good tips from Cima Connect site. Make sure to flick through all question once which would mean you are prepared for what is coming. Also do the Pearson Vue mock two times to get familiar with the type and the style of questions asked. Good luck, and do let us kow how you get on

Guys, I would strongly recommend you to sign up to the Pearson Vue practice exams. They are the real deal. If you are able to pass the these mock exams, you will be fine.
Also, I've seen many of you quote Kaplan and BPP as your sole source material and study providers but they are completely overrated and super expensive. Explore other providers like Acorn Live for study materials. In my opinion, it is much much better and dead cheap in comparison!

Heena,
Did you use this approach for all your operational level exams where you took the pearson vue exams until you were comfortable with the exam content?

Hi guys, I sat P1 yesterday for the second time and passed this time. My first attempt was 4 weeks ago. since then I did exam questions every single day using the Kaplan practice kit, mock exam once a week, and the online practice questions on kaplan en-gage. I became faster by learning to pick out the important information and keywords quicker. Instead of wasting time reading long questions, I go straight to the end to see what they're asking for, then read the rest of the details so I know what I'm looking for.
I also practiced with background noise as it was a little noisy outside the exam room and this put me off the first time. Exam-style practice questions are definitely the way to go! The second exam I found do much easier, and finished with 2.5 mins to spare.
