Are you planning to sit a CIMA case study exam soon? If so, there's lots to think about, and lots more to discuss.
In this thread, you can post anything relevant to the case studies for this sitting. Examples from the pre-seen industries, worries about which theory topics to revise, or advice about how to manage time and write strong answers in the exam; all are welcome here!
To get started, whether you're sitting for the first time or are already a case study veteran, why not share your best tips to passing the CIMA case study exam?

I will be appearing for the OCS exam next week. This OCS is my first case study and I am worried about theory. I found P1 difficult and am worried how much will come up during the exam. Does anyone has sat the case study know how much P1 theory is used?

I am attempting the SCS for second time. I did find it difficult the first time but mainly because I was not well prepared.

Studying at least 5 past exam papers from the previous years will guarantee you a pass

Look at the information provided by CIMA on the past exam questions Where can I find past exam papers for 'certificate level'?

I'm about to sit f1 and hopefully case study in Feb so would appreciate any feedback from those who have sat the ocs in November. I'm working on the assumption short term decision making (my weakest area from p1) is going to be important for the ocs so am going to spend alot of time revising this area. Also I think big data will be a key subject.

Guys, the only thing you should be worrying going to Case Study exams is a solid knowledge of all theory you learnt in F, P and E papers. As to Case Study exams you will never know what king of questions you encaunter, but what is really important that you must write everything you think about the question in case, you must explain your point, how you see it, how you would handle this in real life organisation being an management accountant. As my boss said who passed MCS "use your common sense". It is not even necessary to know exact term from the theory, but you must able to expalin things in simple words. It can bring you good marks. Last year I passed Operational Case Study and you know, I was not well prepared, I obviously didn't learn theory by heart, but I tried to explain everything what I was writing about. And WOW, it worked! So, wish you all the success!!!

Is going through the Kaplan study text and doing the 5 Astranti mocks sufficient to pass MCS?

Does anyone has sat the case study know how much P1 theory is used? There are 4 big questions usually. And 2 sub-question in each. As I remember there is at least 3 questions from P1...can be more, it depends on variant you'll be sitting. Don't worry, it is not test form, write everything you can attach to question and how you would solve this problem in real life...eventually it will give you some marks))

Look at the information provided by CIMA on the past exam questions Where can I find past exam papers for 'certificate level'? Unfortunately you will not find anything for certificate level because on that level all exams in a test form. Everythig you need is to learn theory and try as many as possible apptitude tests provided by CIMA (look for them on CIMA site cimastudy.com/). But when you appear to face of OCS, MCS or SCS, find previous exams here: www.cgma.org/becomeacgma/cgmaexam/post-exam-kits.html

I have passed my final management CBT today and will be sitting the Management Case Study in Feb 2021. Looking at the CIMA website the exam timetable shows that the pre-seen is available much earlier than usual (already available since 2nd Oct 2020). Is there a reason the preseen is already available? Is this the same material as the Nov 2020 exam? I am now looking to purchase the Kaplan and Astranti text but wanted to make sure this relates to the correct preseen

For the management case study is it necessary to know the formulas of all financial ratios studied in F2 or is simply understanding the theory behind it enough for the MCS? I completed F2 a year ago and plan to sit MCS in Feb 2021 so haven't put any time into F2 since I passed. I am hoping that within the answers I wont need to use the formulas to provide specific calculations and that explaining the theory will be sufficient to pass?

You don't need the formulas or to make calcs, you just need to show you know the theory. Write one sentence to say what the theory is and then get on with explaining why its relevant, don't waste time going into detail because you don't get marks, that's what the f2 exam was for.

Is anyone else able to re-book their case study exam before results have been released? I took MCS in November, results due in a week, but I am still able to book another MCS exam. This makes me think I've failed as when I did the OSC I was unable to book OCS until results day, when it turned out I had passed. TIA

I am not too sure if this makes any difference. When I took the Operational exam, it could only be booked at a test centre and did not show up as an option prior to getting the results

So I think that if you can no longer re-book the exam through the method you took it, that will mean you've passed.
I remember when taking the multiple choice exams via online, you would still see the test centre option of the same exam, even if you passed, but the online would disappear.
For the November MCS exam I took it online and can now re-book via online or test centre so this feels like bad news for me, and poor system management from CIMA....

I feel so sorry for anyone in this situation. I failed my very first case study, and waiting for that result was the longest months of my life. But after the fail, the results for the resit and MCS were even longer.
I hope it's just a glitch and you've all passed. Otherwise it's a horrible way to find out your result.

I Sat the MCS in Nov (online) and on MyCima I am only getting the option to book the test centre MCS ie no online option.
Not sure what this means...
Also just received an email from CIMA saying there's still time to book your MCS for Feb:/
Suppose with the results so close just being paranoid lol
Also does anyone know what time the results become available? I know the email comes through in the morning but I believe the site is updated earlier?
Thanks all and good luck for Thursday!

Hey Maz when I was waiting for the OCS result last year I kept refreshing my results page in mycima and managed to find my pass before 8am. The formal email didnt arrive until later in the day! I hope the fact that people can still see an option to rebook is just a glitch. I mean ultimately you're not gonna rebook unless you need to so it probably just sits there when exams are officially open to availability right? not sure CIMA really has the capacity to go to that level of detail. Anyway, hope you all had success & would love to know your experiences?

Hi all, Just wanted to see who's studying towards the OCS now in May. The pre-seen material came out 10 days ago on the 26th of March. I'm not gonna lie - I'm very worried about this exam as all the exames I sat so far I didn't pass with flying colours. It was just over the pass mark - although a pass is a pass! haha
