I'm sitting the OCS in November, wonder if I should focus on the calculations for variance analysis, or theory about what causes them? e.g. understanding price variance mix if changing the price of products.
I'm aware the case study isn't about calculating specific figures, just wondering if it would be helpful for a few extra marks.

You should focus on both. You won't need to make the calculations but you must be able to explain how they are made. You might also be asked to explain what has caused a variance.

Thanks Sabina. I thought there might be questions that would specifically ask for it? e.g asked to calculate the material price variances

You won’t have to do any actual calculations. But you may be given variances and then asked to show you understand how it's calculated.
