F3 is the most difficult exam out of the three exams. I had to dig in to basics and refresh all the finance concepts(further than indicated on the syllabus) also it is quite challenging to attempt all questions on the exam. So the key is to identify which are the 70% questions that will get you to the pass mark. After attempting this a couple of times myself I managed to pass the exam in the second attempt. This approach plus getting familiar with all syllabus areas along with problem solving practice helped me on the exams.

Hey guys, I am retaking F3 next week for my 2nd attempt. I am on a good level of coonfidence with most of the chapters apart from the Capital structure chapter. I just can not seem to understand how and when to use the formulas. I have read through the kaplan material twice now and have bought some BPP material to see if they explain any better. I would appreciate any tips.

I have failed cima F3 four times in five months, its is basically set up for you to fail in the exam, lengthy questions and scenarios you have never come across before in any of the mock papers, and of course why would cima help you? it is now a money machine for them, i have spent hundreds of pounds on mock papers from all the tuition providers and for what? none of them are in line with the real exam, i have been passing all of the mocks apart from astranti as they are very hard, but for what? you cannot gauge anything from the mocks it is a total joke, I feel totally let down my cima and have no respect for them any more, I passed all my other papers either first or second time, I get to these stupid objective tests and I cannot get passed F3, and its my final paper before the scs so I cannot go anywhere.
It is all a money machine now for CIMA and to a certain level the tuition providers too, they should be pushing cima to get more mock exams out there in line with the real exam, but they choose not too i wonder why……..

Would love one tips on passing F3 - my final paper and failed 3 times. I'm embarrassed at the test centre picking up my fail certificate. The exams are so much harder than the question kits and I am beside myself. Rebooked for three weeks time - what's the best approach?

I have sat F3 exam 5 times and yet failed. I passed both Gateway and E3 in my first attempt. The F3 questions in exam are way too long and difficult when you compare with the practice questions available (I have tried all kaplan kit, acorn and astranti practice questions). I wish atleast we could get a detailed feedback of our exam, with the questions and correct answers.

I think F3 is something even if you digest all materials from the Kaplan studytext and not really help since there are lot of calculation questions required us to complete the calculation in an very very short time in order to complete the exam...

I have sat F3 3 times now and still can't get to grips with it, I have passed all the other objectives tests first time and have tried various study materials and practice questions etc all to success but just can't seem to get it in the actual exam! This is my final objective test before the case study m. And I am feeling really disheartened as I literally do not know what to do to pass this exam.....

Hi I passed F3 yesterday on my second attempt.
I want to talk through what I had to do ik order to pass.
Sadly one college exam questions isn't enough.
I study with BPP and when I sat the exam originally I failed due to a large chunk of the questions being in a totally different syle/format than my revision practice lead me to beleive.
Sadly BPP and Kaplan's practice kits do not reflect the exam atall. All though I recommend using both books and going through each booklet start to finish at least 5 times each.
If yoi don't understand something sit with it until you fuly understand it. Once you have completed each question booklet once you are guaranteed to feel demotivatied and a bit stupid to be honest.
This is becuase the questions booklet is incremental to you study notes. It's almost like further tuition.
On the second attempt of each bookelt your confidence will start to grow as you will have actually learned something from the first attempt for the very first attempt.
3/4th attempt you will be learning ways and tricks to answee these questions quickly which is higher recommened as the exam is super time intensive.
Sadly neither book will be enough to see you through the exam. Majority of the questions that came up in the exam where in the exact same style as the BPP learning ladders. Some questions from my learning ladders where in the actual exam which is a bonus. Exact same questions that is!
I feel BPP and Kaplan are almost working together to increase each others revenues. Kaplans question booklet is very maths/formula intense and BPP is more theorms and less maths.
It makes sense as CIMA simply teachs how to appriase projects/increase revenues/merge in order to make companies more profitable and it is like BPP and Kapan are putting it to practice.
There is no way you can self study with either colleges text book and question practice kit alone and they know that. They know once students fail they will be on forums seeing how others passed.
I work in a FTSE 100 company with over 50+ studying analysts and sadly they all have to use both colleges revision question practice kits to pass which is sad but thats the world we have to live in.
Follow my advice - learn both and mainly - learn how to answer them quickly!
Goodluck

Losing the will with F3 - feel like giving up. I have taken this 4 times now and still no luck. Also feeling disheartened because I don't know what to do to pass without any feedback. I have no idea where I am going wrong.

i have attempted F3 four time and failed.
The reason , i have observed that, F3 paper objective test questions are very lengthy and time are very very limited.
This is one of the method of collecting from student by CIMA
1st time attended - Results failed - no information about marks 2nd time attended - Results failed - 91 marks 3rd time attended - Results failed - Fees and exam attended - Pearson agreement not made tick mark - they are not allowed the exam 4th Time attended - Results failed - 92 marks

Just passed F3, took me three weeks to prepare(average 8 hours a day). I went through the text book 3 times and all questions in exam kit for 3 times. Once I understand the relationship of those formulars, the calculation is much easier. Wish this helps. Good luck guys.

Hi everyone, Ironic enough, I just checked this forum today after I gave my F3 exam today afternoon. I actually passed the exam and this was my first attempt. Gotta admit I was very confident about scoring in the exam. The questions were damn lengthy and I could only finish 30 questions in first 60 mins and then lol, i sped up like hell. Last 6 mins remaining, had like 12 or so questions undone, went to them and randomly marked bullshit. Lol Was expecting to fail once I finished, but did pass suprisingly. I work so I only studied on few weekends and did 200 practice mcqs from kaplan past papers. Thats all. Just being lucky I guess. I was a top scorer across Malaysia in E2 during 2014 exam, though. Now in Dubai and got this drive to finish my cima finally. E3 and P3 to go only.

Hi Zofia15 - you can buy the exam practice kits from Cima which have over 200 exam standard questions for the objective test exam. Also, you could pick up the practice kits second hand from a seller on Ebay.

hi All I passed F3 yesterday on second attempt so I thought to give a feedback. Exam was tough but not that hard compare to P3. Timing is still an issue so what I did - I just skipped the lengthy questions as I know I would spent lot of time on those. I must admit I guessed many question as well. There were many questions on acquisitions and financing of acquisition. Be prepared to have good knowlegde of share re-purchase, venture capitalist, MBO, skip dividend ect. Get more info of the internet if you are not confident. Both variants I sat had few questions on LIBOR which I wasn’t that happy with ). Supprisingly I did not have that many question on valuation or capital structure that I would expected. I used Kaplan study text and Kaplan kit and BPP kit. I think Kaplan and BPP are the most relevant. Also Cima aptitude! I used to get other sources in the previous exams as well as: Astranti, Accorn and the Practice test Academy. Good luck, if you need more info, please feel free to contact me.
