I though we could get this forum started with a discussion about the CIMA OT exams.
Here at Astranti, we've heard from lots of students who've taken the CIMA Management OT exams and their feedback has varied quite significantly!
Many people say these exams are very difficult, and required a number of attempts to pass and others have said they were easier than the expected.
Have you taken any of the exams? Which ones? What did you do to prepare for them and did it work?!
Looking forward to reading your feedback!

My first OT exam is in two weeks, E2. It would be good to hear from others and how they have found it so far. How are the results shown? Am i correct in understanding that you only receive a pass or fail and that you could technically receive 70% and still fail the exam if you have not shown competency in all or specific areas?
Thanks

Hi Lorri
I havent taken an OT exam yet, but you only need to get 70% to pass the exam. This is different for the Case Study exam at each level.

I sat E2 yesterday. This was the first exam under the new testing regime I have sat. I found it more challenging than the practise assessments from the official texts with theories being requested that were known by different names in the text. I found that time was more of an issue than in the practise assessments

I sat the E2 paper in early April and having covered the syllabus I found it to be quite reasonable although it was time pressured. Has anyone sat the F2 paper and how did this go?

I recently took the F2 exam and didnt do well although I knew I wasnt ready but needed to see what it was like. The thing I would like to know from others who have taken an OT exam is how do you mentally go through the exam knowing there are 60 questions?.

When I did the E2 paper I completed the very easy questions as I scrolled through the paper and marked the hard ones / the ones which required lots of time to read. I then went through everything a second time giving more time to the slightly harder ones and checking the ones I'd done already. This left me with about 20 tough questions and enough time to work them out or make a decision between two close options. F2 is a lot tougher so I'm not looking forward to this exam.

I have sat F2 for the second time today and failed it again. I haven't failed the old style exams. I felt well prepared as I have been using BPP and Kaplan study texts and exam kits, also the Pearson Vue and Cima Aptitude mocks. I found the questions in the exam a lot more difficult to follow than what I have been used to seeing, some of them nothing like the exam kits. Timing is also a big issue, there were many questions that needed an good long read through to digest them.

Did okay on the Cima Aptitude and Pearson Vue mocks but found the actual exam a lot more difficult, with longer scenarios to read before attempting the question. Unsure how to pass if the revision material I have bought is nothing like the exam. Wanted to attempt the case study in May, as this is my last exam to pass on this level, but that now looks unlikely.

The only way to deal with the long scenarios is to read the requirement, and then skim the scenario to pick up the information you need discarding the 90% of information which is irrelevant.

I have sat the F2 exam twice and failed twice. I know that I did as much preparation as possible. I had the Kaplan and BPP practise exam kits, sat numerous CIMA practise exam papers but when it came to the exam I found the questions completely different to anything I had seen before. Some of the questions felt like there wasn't even enough information to begin working out the answer and a few I had no idea what they actually wanted. It has now reached the point that I am thinking of giving the CIMA journey up. It just annoys me that I was doing ok under the old format, passing 4 exams in 18 months and here I am 15 months down the line and I haven't passed a single exam. Is there anyone out there that is struggling as much as I am?

I'm having the same issue as many of you above, timing is a massive problem. I seem to do ok on the mocks.

Post by P2 - how to pass on Apr 26, 2016 19:42:48 GMT
Hi all . I have read that quite a lot of students are struggling to pass P2. This is how you pass it :
you do 150 multiple choice questions that CIMA study provide under EXAM conditions - if you dont get 70% then redo all 150 questions
then you start googling for extra questions where you think you may have a weakness eg trying to calculate b in the learning curve. You need to become extremely passionate about what you do. You must have a thirst for the knowledge. if you dont YOU ARE NOT GOING TO PASS
make sure that you are able to handle intense detail and speed read to establish exactly what they are asking in a question.

Kazzer - I am struggling just as much as you! I have taken the F2 exam 4 times now and still unsuccessful! It is driving me insane as I am very close to passing (based on the CIMA scaling provided). I find timing a huge problem. I have used BPP, Kaplan and now Astranti material. After the 3rd sitting I felt that had a real chance of passing - I put in a lot of effort with revision and felt the exam went ok. I was extremely close to passing that time (94 scaling - need 100 to pass) so it really knocked me when I didnt succeed. I recently sat the exam again but I have lost my mojo and the desire to do the exam is no longer there. I had my exam technique down to a tee with the old syllabus, but have been struggling with the OT's. ( I am hoping looking to sit the exam again this week, but I a so fed up of doing it now. I am trying not to let it beat me! Do not give up on your studies. You have already put in so much effort, to get where you are now. Hey guys, Did anyone of you pass the F2 exam? I'm struggling with it cause of time pressure. The long scenarios make it impossible to complete the exam in 1.5 minutes. I did practice all the questions from the exam kit but the actual exam was so much tougher than the mock exams! What do I do now? Someone please help! I feel lost
