Failed with a score of 78 after getting strong in integration and moderate in all other competencies. Hard to say what I would do differently next time as I feel the missing 1 or 2 marks are attributable to sitting the exam with a massive migraine rather than lack of knowledge or preparation, so frustrating! oh well back to the grind stone and get into Pizzatime!

Hi, I sat the MCS as the Gateway exam and passed with 113, getting strong in every competency.
I worked so hard for this exam, had posters and diagrams all over my dining room - books everywhere and studied at least 2 hours a day in the week and at least 4 hours a day each weekend day. What was the most helpful in my preparation was a mix of things.
Firstly, using the Astranti strategic analysis - both the videos and the document, and the industry analysis. I would say key to passing the exam is to make sure that you are 100% familiar with both the organisation of the case study and the industry. My walls before the exam were covered in strategic analysis, SWOT/five forces, PESTEL, product lifecycle diagrams etc... You need to be thinking as though you work for the company and know it as well or even better than the actual company you work for. From the comments on the competencies I think it was my understanding of ABC, its core competencies, strengths and the industry that helped me gain the points, particularly on the business and integration skills. The exam is testing your ability to show how management accounting can benefit a company and the implications of it on people and knowing the industry and company inside out really helps with this.
The videos are great as I found I could watch them on my Ipad while I was at the gym.
Secondly, the marked mocks. I would recommend doing as many mock exams as possible, and getting at least one marked. I felt like I had no clue what they were looking for, so doing a marked mock helped focus me on what the examiner would be looking for. Invaluable, but use those from Astranti not Kaplan as Kaplan as you get great feedback.
Oh, and the Astranti syllabus summary document you can buy was amazing... I spent a good few weeks working my way through that - they coach you how to apply it to the case at the end of each section which I found great to help think about the material in relevance to the case study.
Finally, read all the examiners reports of previous exams you can find. This gives you more ideas as to what they are looking for, and the types of answers that will score highly. I found these invaluable to guide my thinking and help me realise the holistic nature of the answers required.

Hi Ben, it is 80 but you need to get 'moderate' or 'strong' in each competency

Thanks Emma. That is simply the most unfair way of grading. They saying i didnt pass on people skills.Cima is a joke.Last time i got moderate in all areas but failed to make 80.What a way of ripping us off.I have done ACCA and their grading is simple, get this mark and you pass.

I have passed November MCS taking a gateway route with 92 marks. Astranti course was great! I liked study materials, strategic and industry videos and ethics pack. All these materials gave me a good understanding of the case. The most helpful for me was real time mock exams. I have made a lot of mistakes during those mocks and all of them let me feel more confident on the day of exam. And also the feedback on my mocks was a valuable source for improvement.

Hi, I am new to cima. When I registered they said in eligible for the gateway exam. I haven't done any other modules before this. I studied on my own without the help of any of the tuition providers. Got strong for integration and moderate for the other competencies. My mark was 74. It's very disheartening that I failed just by 6.

Hi, I sat MCS and got moderate in all and strong in intergration scored 80 and passed. I'm so glad to pass and complete this Management level at last! With the new style of examination it has taken me an extra year to finish Management, as I failed P2 by 3 marks in the last set of written papers and getting to grips with the syllabus change and the new style definitely took its toll!!
Astranti materials were a great help through the P2 OT and the MCS and I look forward to using astranti again!!

I passed with a score of 85. I am still not sure on how CIMA marks and evaluates. My biggest issues are i am not native English and my typing speed. Thanks to Astranti to have improved my examination techniques, well done.

Hi, passed the MCS with 104. used a lot Cima connect, Astradi videos and the kaplan book for planning revision. Work experience helped me on this exam but preparation and industry rsearch on the case study helped me too. Good luck.

I have asked the question of CIMA and they say normally within 2 weeks, however the nearest timescale they will commit to at present is "soon". rather annoying as wanting to review to gain closure on november and progress towards resit

I am hoping to re-sit in May and wondered what is the Astranti syllabus summary document Emma is referring to. BTW well done Emma and all the best with Strategic.
